We are incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be returning to Portland House Of Music & Events on Saturday April 14 for a very special show with some of our friends and favorite local musicians called Mad Dogs & Maines – A Tribute To Joe Cocker. An all-star band of Maine musicians will be performing Joe Cocker’s classic album Mad Dogs & Englishmen in its entirety including several songs from the original run of shows which were not previously available on the original double LP. You can get your tickets online now for only $10!
Special guests for the night will include Gina Alibrio (The Red Eye Flight Crew), Susanne Gerry (Songstress Extraordinaire), Tim Goad (The Desperate Man’s Blues Explosion), Justin Maxwell (The Maine Dead Project), Matt Kennedy (Master of Woodwinds), Alex Cardamone (Brash Brass Provocateur), and Chris Dealaman (Keeper Of Rhythm).
The story of Mad Dogs & Englishmen is nearly as epic as the sound laid down on wax some 47 years ago. After months on the road, Joe Cocker arrived in Los Angeles in March 1970 and was immediately told he’d been scheduled to perform a seven week tour to start some 8 days later. The next day, Leon Russell hears of Joe’s plight and offers his services in forming and playing in a band for the tour. So great is his prowess on the telephone that, by the day’s end, ten musicians have been assembled and rehearsals begun. After six days of marathon rehearsals, the band crowds into a plane along with roadies, sound men, secretaries, managers, wives, lovers, assorted children, and a film crew bound for Detroit. On March 26 and 27, the group arrives at the Fillmore East where the shows are recorded and released as a double album.
Be sure to get your tickets early and share with your friends!
